Great piece by @ggronvall on what’s really at stake in denying the evidence for zoonotic origin of SARS-CoV-2 to justify restricting virus research going forward…
It will hinder viral research needed to prepare and respond to the next pandemic.https://t.co/ZpHvYvlIpj

You can’t find something you don’t look for. Much as the CCDC didn’t find virus in a live animal because they didn’t sample any, we were looking in the wrong database.
The BLAST nt database does not contain the whole raccoon dog genome. It only contains the mitochondrial genome.

The analysis presented is not accurate or reliable as it stands now. This preprint, as far as I know, is still undergoing peer review. Hopefully that will result in an improved manuscript.
This is too important to get wrong.

The study based on the data available again does NOT support the hypothesis that animal to human transmission occurred inside the Huanan Market and in particular while raccoon dogs were present inside the market, there was no evidence showing that they were infected by the virus (see pages 6/47 and 12/47 of the preprint). Great article by @sciencecohen.
Hits on how these 3 year old data could still clarify events upstream of the pandemic's epicenter at the Huanan market.
And how the current revelations support already strong evidence of Huanan epicenter/wildlife origin.https://t.co/R1cXBtdAuY

In the long-running debate over the origin of covid-19, the latest DNA evidence suggests that it may have reached people via raccoon dogs https://t.co/G5A2pAFWCF

Growing evidence Racoon Dog meat trade could have have been the source of Covid 19 that has killed millions of people worldwide. This is why all dog meat trade must end #covid https://t.co/aFKD7IUpZz

"Given the currently avail evidence, the 2 plausible possibilities for the origin of the #SARSCoV2 are not equally likely. Continuing to frame them as such does us all a disservice, dilutes our efforts, and misdirects resources."

Where did the pandemic begin?
Was it from nature or a lab?
Since the start, this fundamental question has gone unanswered.
Until now.
